Ankara State Conservatory Historical Photographs and Documents Archive Project Closing Symposium

The Endangered Archives grant program, operated by the British Library and funded by Arcadia, the charitable foundation established by Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin, is dedicated to the preservation of natural resources, cultural heritage, and the advancement of open access to knowledge.

VEKAM continues to enrich its library and archive collections in order to preserve, disseminate and reproduce knowledge. In 2022, VEKAM will be participating in the Endangered Archives grant program, which sheds light on the cultural, social and educational life of the Early Republican Period, In order to digitize and preserve the Ankara State Conservatory (Musiki Muallim Mektebi) Collection, which is one of the important collections of VEKAM Archive, VEKAM applied with a project proposal titled Ankara State Conservatory Historical Photographs and Documents Archive and was deemed worthy of support in the “major project grants” category of the program. The project, which commenced in November 2022, was concluded in 2024, after which the Ankara State Conservatory Historical Photographs and Documents Archive was inaugurated and made accessible to researchers via the VEKAM digital archive collections.

It is our contention that the Ankara State Conservatory (Musiki Muallim Mektebi) Historical Photographs and Documents Archive Project Closing Symposium, scheduled for October 9, 2024, on the centenary of the Musiki Muallim Mektebi’s establishment, will serve two principal functions. Firstly, it will introduce the digitized collection to researchers. Secondly, it will provide insight into the contribution of archival materials to interdisciplinary scientific studies and enrich scientific studies by inspiring new interdisciplinary research.

*The event will take place in person at the Koç University VEKAM’s Ankara Orchard.
